Heithoff-Brody High School Summer Scholars Program 2025

This eight-week paid internship allows high school students to gain real-life experience performing scientific research while developing skill sets needed for careers in STEM. The program takes place from June 16 to August 8, 2025.

Application Requirements & Supplemental Documents

Prior to beginning your application, ensure you are prepared to complete each of the following components.

1. Resume: Your resume should be no longer than 1-2 pages, and include ONLY relevant information. This is you “at a glance,” keep it clear, short, and to the point. Suggested information/sections include contact information, education, any and all work experience, skills and abilities, and other relevant information, as it applies to the internship program.

2. Short Answer Questions: We recommend drafting the answers to these questions in advance so that you are able to copy and paste into the application. Please answer these questions within 200 words.
3. Letter of Recommendation: One letter is required and you will upload with your application. Recommenders can be previous or current teachers of any subject, coaches, school counselors, mentor former supervisors, or others in similar roles.
4. Unofficial School Transcript: Transcript must be in a PDF form with all classes taken included.

Many of our scientists work with animal models (like mice) and stem cells in their research. We understand if these subjects make students uncomfortable, so please let us know which statements apply best to you.

In order for you to be considered for the Heithoff-Brody High School Summer Scholars Internship program you must have a parent or guardian’s permission.

Recommenders can be past or current teachers of any subject, coaches, school counselors, mentors, former supervisors, or others in similar roles. All recommendations will be weighted equally and applicants will not be penalized if they do not have a recommendation from a STEM teacher.

Many educators receive multiple requests for recommendation letters from students. We suggest that you discuss the internship program and the recommendation letter with your chosen recommender before sending them to this form.

Please note that some districts have firewalls that may prevent teachers from receiving recommendation requests through their district email addresses. Check back with your teacher/recommender to make sure your request for a recommendation has been received.

The application will close for students on April 5, but the deadline for the recommendations will be extended to April 12
