As part of the Biocomputation Initiative, Salk has developed a faculty advisory council and a local community of practice to support research community members.

Biocomputation Faculty Advisory Council

Established in March of 2024, the Biocomputation Faculty Advisory Group is charged to:
  1. Provide strategic guidance on behalf of all Salk Faculty on developing and expanding Biocomputation infrastructure and services at the Institute, ensuring alignment with the Institute’s overall scientific mission and goals.
  2. Foster interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty and research personnel working at the intersection of biology, computer science, machine learning, and AI to advance innovative computational approaches for understanding complex biological systems.
  3. Advise on recruiting, mentoring, and supporting exceptional faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students, and staff in Biocomputation and acquiring and managing resources necessary to maintain a world-class research environment.

Biocomputation Community of Practice
As Salk initiated the Biocomputation initiative, the Institute formed a Community of Practice to help bring together research staff, postdoctoral postdoctoral students, and faculty. This group meets monthly to share information and best practices and provide training opportunities.
