As part of the Biocomputation Initiative, Salk has developed a faculty advisory council and a local community of practice to support research community members.
Biocomputation Faculty Advisory Council
Established in March of 2024, the Biocomputation Faculty Advisory Group is charged to:- Provide strategic guidance on behalf of all Salk Faculty on developing and expanding Biocomputation infrastructure and services at the Institute, ensuring alignment with the Institute’s overall scientific mission and goals.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty and research personnel working at the intersection of biology, computer science, machine learning, and AI to advance innovative computational approaches for understanding complex biological systems.
- Advise on recruiting, mentoring, and supporting exceptional faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students, and staff in Biocomputation and acquiring and managing resources necessary to maintain a world-class research environment.

Biocomputation Community of Practice
As Salk initiated the Biocomputation initiative, the Institute formed a Community of Practice to help bring together research staff, postdoctoral postdoctoral students, and faculty. This group meets monthly to share information and best practices and provide training opportunities.
