Global climate change is one of the greatest catastrophes mankind has ever faced. Increasing atmospheric CO2 and other greenhouse gases are driving rising temperatures and extreme weather. Climate change poses an existential threat to life as we know it, driving widespread famine, drought, disease and species loss and the inevitable conflicts that arise when resources become scarce. To help solve this problem, Salk is aggressively pursuing a novel program to mitigate climate change: The Harnessing Plants Initiative (HPI).
