Biochemistry and Biophysics
Unlocking the secrets of life itself is the driving force behind the Salk Institute. And that starts with understanding the most basic building blocks of life, including DNA, RNA, proteins, and carbohydrates. Salk’s biochemists and biophysicists are dedicated to uncovering the structure and function of these molecules, including how they form, interact, assemble complexes, and move, as well as the roles they play in health and disease.
Researchers at Salk are also using principles of biochemistry and biophysics to develop new laboratory tools and techniques that allow scientists to unlock the secrets of life in increasingly greater scope and detail. These faculty members and their labs collaborate across all disciplines to apply computational technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning and ultimately to drive discoveries in neuroscience, cancer, healthy aging, and more.
